The Value of the School Logo on our Uniform Shirts

I have gotten questions from parents about the expectation this year that all students are to wear school logoed shirts. After two years of grandfathering in the policy it is time to make it mandatory. As it is with anything, change is difficult, but if we understand the history and reason for the change it is much more palatable.

The uniform committee met in May, aware that Notre Dame Catholic School is under contract to Dennis Uniforms for the 2011-2012 school year, and that any changes could not be implemented until the following year, with one exception. That exception was the school logo on the shirt. It was originally stated in the 2009 Parent/Student Handbook that grandfathering in the logo would be for one year, which was extended for another year in 2010. We will never fully realize the value of the logo if we don’t just make the leap and adopt it as policy. This is the year to do that.

Our logo is unique. It is our brand. It identifies anyone wearing the logo with Notre Dame Catholic School. Whether the child is wearing the logo in school or in public there is an immediate recognition of where the child attends school. Along with the identification there is pride and a feeling of school spirit for Notre Dame Catholic School. Personally, I can attest to the school spirit as I wear my school logoed shirts out in public frequently, and I am often asked about Notre Dame. Needless to say, I will take any opportunity to expound on the outstanding qualities of our school.  I am sure everyone can attest to the look that is achieved when there is an identical marking on every child throughout the school. The uniqueness of each child comes from within not what society inundates us with daily as to how we should look and what we should be wearing.

You will have the opportunity to come to the Uniform Sale on Saturday, August 6th, from 9-12 in the gym. Perhaps you can purchase used logoed apparel, and Dennis Uniform will be there for you to preorder new uniforms without having to drive to their Park Meadows Store. I am confident we will all wear our school logo with pride and it will have an extremely positive impact on our entire community.
