A Message from the Principal
Summer, 2010
Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends of Notre Dame Catholic School,
What Makes Notre Dame Catholic School Unique?
When seeing this question the first thing that comes to mind is definitely religion. It is religion that sets all Catholic schools apart from public and private schools. It is the Catholic identity that permeates throughout all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Denver. Every school in the Archdiocese is unique and Notre Dame Catholic School is no exception.
Our Early Learning Center (ELC) has a flexible program that allows parents to choose the time and days that best fits their child’s needs and their schedule. The minimum number for preschool is two half-days and for pre-kindergarten it is three half-days. Full days, five days a week are also available and other options in between. Kindergarten classes are five days a week and there is an option of half-day or full-day. Also, the ELC has partnered with the Denver Preschool Program for our four year olds and is looking forward to going through the Qualistar review process during the 2010-2011 school year.
Notre Dame Catholic School stands alone with a unique program we have implemented in our junior high; half of our classes are single gender. While schools may adopt a coed or a single gender model, we have not found another school that provides both options. Math, Science and English are divided by gender. Religion, American History and Literature are coed. This model has proved to be extremely successful for our students. Parents have been supportive of the single gender classes and recognize the value, especially at the junior high level.
As we look forward to next year we are excited about some wonderful additions to our school. We have received a grant from the Morgridge Family Foundation and will be installing four new interactive white boards over the summer. We are leasing all new computers for our computer lab which will be installed by the time school starts on August 23rd. We are adopting a new class entitled World Languages. The curriculum has been written by the Office of Catholic Schools and will be an opportunity to celebrate our diverse community.
It is my pleasure and honor to invite you to take another look at Catholic schools. If you would like a tour or want additional information please call Joan Geldaker, the director of our Early Learning Center, at 303-935-8810. (The center is open all summer.) Or you can call the school office at 303-935-3549 and we will return your call.
In Christ’s Love,
Charlene M. Molis
