BRET BAKER – CLASS OF 1995

bretbakerTechnical Sergeant Baker is an alumnus of Notre Dame Catholic School, and is a military flight attendant working on a team that serves top American government officials, including the President of the United States, the Vice President and the Secretary of State. The 19 planes of the 89th Airlift Wing fly from Joint Base Andrews near Washington D.C.
This team is responsible for up to 1,000 missions a year, many on short notice or delayed due to important events.
This is no ordinary airline. Those who board these plans don’t have time to stop by McDonald’s on the concourse, so this team is trained to provide culinary delights. In the last year and a half, they have received training at Andrews from expert chefs. Recently, Melissa Bigelow, who has fed the likes of Tom Cruise and Simon Cowell, came from Los Angeles to train the group. She works at The Corporate School of Etiquette in Long Beach where flight attendants used to attend classes on scholarship. Due to the nature of the made-to-order meals provided, the crew may have to go shopping with less than a day’s notice to accommodate the passengers’ requests. These meals are prepared in advance and frozen to be placed onboard for trips that may last several days. For the security of the passengers, only the flight’s attendants are allowed to purchase and prepare the food.
The flight attendants must have impeccable service records to be considered for this job. According to Wikipedia, only 164 are chosen each year from an estimated 329,640 Air Force service personnel.
Tech. Sgt. Baker has worked on Air Force One and is now the leader of a crew for the Vice President’s flight attendants. In the four and a half years that he has served, he has been to 65 countries. Air Force flight attendants are in high demand with companies, including Fortune 500 for their knowledge of worldwide cultures and their culinary expertise.
